Our History

What started off as a small paint business is now listed on the Fortune 1000. As the company grew, so did our selection of colours and products.

Much like our paint, Valspar has stood the test of time with flying colours. Since 1806, Valspar has been vibrantly colouring the world with our products. Whether it was the houses down the street or the plane of American Aviator Charles Lindbergh, Valspar had it covered and still does to this day.

Valentine and Company begins development for car varnish, acquires Minnesota Linseed Oil Paint Company, and expands operations to New York, Chicago, and the West Coast.

Lawson Valentine's grandson, L. Valentine Pulsifer creates the world's first clear varnish and coins the tagline, "the varnish that won't turn white".

Charles Lindbergh makes his historic non-stop flight from New York to Paris with a plane covered in Valspar Paint and Varnish.
