Inspiring New Ad Campaign Paints Walls as Canvases of Our Lives

WHEELING, Ill., (June 14, 2010) – When it comes to redecorating, choosing the right paint colour can be an emotional journey for many folks. With that in mind, the Valspar Corporation, a leader in the paint and coatings industry, has created an inspiring new ad campaign that reminds us how transformative a new coat of paint can be. Walls are no longer just dividers; they are canvases that can renew the spaces they define when we use the right Valspar colour.

Under the theme, “A Wall Is a Canvas,” the campaign breaks this month just as Americans begin thinking about redecorating and freshening up their living spaces for spring. Created by Euro RSCG Chicago, the print, broadcast and digital ads seek to capture the imagination of the target consumer who expresses herself through colour and who views her home as one of her greatest self expressions.

Shot on location in Australia, the 15- and 30-second television spots have a sweeping, epic feeling as they follow a young couple to several breathtakingly beautiful natural settings, including the salt flats of Lake Gairdner, the heart of the Outback at the Flinders Ranges, and a small cay in the Great Barrier Reef just off the coast of Cairns. Inspired by the beauty all around them, the couple slides Valspar accent walls into the scenes, demonstrating the powerful effect that adding the right colour to our surroundings can have. The segments were directed by Iain Mackenzie, known for his gorgeous cinematography, and feature music composed and produced by Jonathan Elias, famous for his work with Sting, James Taylor, and Alanis Morissette. They will run on a diverse mix of cable programming including home improvement, lifestyle, women’s, and sports networks.

The print advertisements reflect an aesthetic similar to the television spots, but simply feature the Valspar accent walls in natural settings saturated in rich colour. Valspar is making a significant buy in shelter, fashion, entertaining and lifestyle magazines for the campaign. Online, the ads will appear on a mix of shelter and lifestyle websites.
